Today during chapel, the Counseling Department focused on ways we at EMS can continue to sustain a safe community; one where we can acknowledge and appreciate differences and commit to ensuring the safety of all students.Linked here is the entire chapel presentation that was shared. You may want to discuss today's chapel or look at this link together: Chapel Presentation.
In particular, our counselors outlined the different forms that bullying can take and what other school community members can do if we witness unkind acts. Several of our high school students preformed skits to illustrate these points (thank you high schoolers!). Here is the link to that Chapel video.
At the end of the presentation, students were given some ideas that they could use to help support those that are struggling; perhaps with bullying or with another issue. Students were encouraged to stand by friends and schoolmates that need their support and to come to an adult if they have a concern that's unresolved.
We also launched an online referral form so that parents and students can let the counseling department know of their concerns when face to face communication isn't possible or comfortable. This form is available here and on the front page of Haiku. All entries will be sent to Mr. Steve Yoder (counselor for grades 10-12) and Mrs. Lindsey Fast (counselor for grades 6-9) and kept confidential as issues are addressed.
Parents should click here to report concerns.
As always, please do not hesitate to contact us with any concerns you or your child may have. We value your partnership at EMS!
