The first day of the 2016-7 school year is Tuesday, August 23rd. Students begin the day in their homerooms at 8:00 a.m. Homeroom locations are as follows for Middle School:
6th Grade: Mrs. Melendez' room
7th Grade: Mrs. Swartz' English room
8th Grade: Gymnasium
During this first homeroom, students will get a copy of their schedules and meet their homeroom teacher. Homerooms for future weeks will take place on Tuesday mornings between chapel/neighbor groups and third period. During future homerooms students and homeroom teachers will focus upcoming events and information pertinent to that week. Unlike other schools, homerooms are only once a week at EMS. After the first day of school, students should go directly to their first period class at the beginning of school each day.
Please also remember that school has an 8:00 a.m. start every day except Tuesday mornings (beginning August 30th) when school begins at 8:30 a.m.
Late start Tuesdays allow our faculty to hold meetings and give time for our high school orchestra to rehearse. It sounds confusing at first so just remember -- first Tuesday of the year (8/23) come at 8:00 a.m.; other Tuesdays (beginning 8/30) come at 8:30 a.m. (unless you are a middle school student participating in orchestra).

When in doubt about anything regarding Eastern Mennonite School, please ask! Please encourage your child to ask a classmate, teacher or any EMS student where rooms are. They'll quickly find that there are plenty of friendly and helpful people there for them. If you or your child would like to arrange a tour just to be familiar with classroom locations, please let me know.
For information about the first week and dismissal information, check out the blog post published earlier.
As always, please let me know if I can be of help to you or if you have additional questions.
We look forward to seeing your family at EMS soon!
